Remember plant identification class? Want to brush up on your tree id skills? Meet some neighbors? See more diversity of trees than you might usually specify in a planting plan? Please consider signing up as a “team leader” as three Portland neighborhoods inventory their street trees. While I am most interested in my neighborhood, Sunnyside (SE Hawthorne to Stark between 28th and 49th Streets) and hope you might join us here, Hosford Abernethy and NW Portland neighborhoods are also participating in this Portland Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry Division program.

Each neighborhood will have four Saturday morning inventory work days. Pairs of volunteers will each be assigned several blocks to inventory. While anyone can be a data collector, we really need people that can identify at least some of the trees. There will be certified arborists on bikes to help with any uncertainties!

Team Leaders must attend a training session and commit to participate in three inventory work days. Training is offered on Saturday, June 23, at SE Uplift at 3534 SE Main St. Sign up for one session, either 8:30 AM-noon or 1:00-4:30 PM. Register online at http://portlandonline.com/parks/treeinventory.

Inventory work days will be held on Saturdays from 8:30 am to noon from June through September. Use the same link to register for specific days. If possible, add that you are a landscape architect in the comments so I can get a sense of how many participate.
