JULIE MOIR MESSERVY: Lecture and Workshop
November 9th and 10th
Lecture Friday night, Nov. 9th at 7:00 pm:
"Hearing the Stream with Open Eyes: Designing Landscapes that Fulfill our Longings"
Are designed landscapes—those created and crafted by landscape professionals—losing relevance in today's digital age? Julie Moir Messervy believes that they will if designers don't try harder to help get people outside again. The author of six books on landscape design, a noted lecturer, and an award-winning designer, Julie has spent her thirty-five-year career inspiring—through her award-winning design work—and educating—through her numerous articles, her blog, and her six books on landscape design, along with hundreds of lectures. Illustrating her points with her studio's wide-ranging public and private projects, Ms. Messervy explains the five paths she's taken to help homeowners and professionals to "hear the stream with open eyes".
Workshop Saturday, Nov. 10th, 9 am to 4 pm:
"Creating Home Outside"
Creating Home Outside is an inspiring and informative workshop for landscape design professionals that includes lively lectures, illustrative images and plans, lively discussions, and opportunities to practice Julie's design principles and methods.
Over the course of this day-long workshop, participants are introduced to the Julie's design process presented in her award-winning book, Home Outside (The Taunton Press, 2009). After each lecture, participants engage in a series of short exercises that include collaborative hands-on activities designed to challenge their design capabilities.
