People's Choice
The general public voted on the People’s Choice Award from April 4-14, 2004. All 30 entries for this year’s design awards were displayed at the Pioneer Place Rotunda. The public was asked to vote for their favorite project. The Multnomah Building Green Roof received the most votes and was honored at the Design Awards Soiree held on April 17. The project transformed an existing flat roof into Portland’s first public green roof demonstration garden. The area provides views, seating, accessibility, a diverse mix of vegetation, and interpretive signage to educate users about the process and overall benefits of green roofs. The roof will also serve as a laboratory for green roof development with experiments that will be conducted by various agencies, including Portland State University and the Bureau of Environmental Services.
