4/20 NORTH PARK BLOCK DESIGN CHARRETTE
Join Portland Parks and Recreation staff and other ASLA Oregon members as we explore design possibilities associated with a potential new North Park Block. Located at the northern terminus of the historic Park Blocks and immediately south of downtown Portland’s Main Post Office, the site currently serves as surface parking for the adjacent historic US Customs House. A future North Park Block could extend this Portland icon and engage with the lively and rapidly changing Pearl District just west of the site and Chinatown/Old Town to the east. What recreational uses make sense for this space? Should NW 8th connect to NW Hoyt Street? What happens if the Post Office site redevelops sometime in the future? Does the parking need to be replaced? Design charrettes are a great opportunity to share your expertise while learning from other experienced practitioners. Local park experts will be on hand to share best practices and PDH credit will be available. Registration will be capped at 36 participants so don’t delay - sign up today! Price includes lunch and beverages.

4/20 EMERGING PROFESSIONALS SOCIAL
Join the Emerging Professionals for a happy hour social to end the Design Charrette with a BANG! We would love to hear from those of you we have met over the past year at our other events and others interested in networking with emerging professionals in landscape architecture and other professions. Following the Design Charrette, meet us at The Original to share your thoughts with fellow like-minded professionals! ASLA Oregon Chapter is pleased to offer appetizers at 5:30pm. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: DAN CORSON
Dan Corson’s artwork straddles the disciplines of art, theatrical design, architecture, landscape architecture and sometimes even magic. His projects have ranged from complex rail stations and busy public intersections to quiet interpretive buildings, meditation chambers and galleries. Corson’s work is infused with drama, passion, layered meanings and often engages the public as co-creators within his environments. He is particularly interested in green design and new technologies and how these tools can help frame and amplify the natural word and our shifting relationship to it. Among his various awards, Corson has been honored with eight Public Art Network Year-in-Review National Awards, and received the NW Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies (NIAUSI prize) fellowship in Italy. Corson lives and works in Seattle.
