Native Prairie and Oak Savanna; How to Specify, Install and Manage with Lessons Learned at Graham Oaks Nature Park

  • ASLA Oregon PO Box 5711 Portland, Oregon 97228 (map)

ASLA Oregon Mt. Hood Section in partnership with Oregon Metro are pleased to announce Native Prairie and Oak Savanna; How to Specify, Install and Manage with Lessons Learned at Graham Oaks Nature Park event. (1.5 HSW PDW)

Oak savannas and native prairies have been the primary ecosystems of the Willamette Valley for thousands of years thanks to human stewardship.  Unfortunately, only 1% of these landscape typologies remain, leading to the sharp decline of the flora and fauna that depend on them.  In response, many designers and owners are working to incorporate savannas and prairies in their projects.  At this event you will learn how to specify, install and nurture these important ecosystems.  The event will be held at Graham Oaks Nature Park where Metro restored an oak savanna and has been managing it for the past 10 years.  On a universally accessible walking tour of the park, you will learn about their successes and challenges and their plans for the future.
